Devotional: The Final Word.

Scripture:
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” — Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)

Reflection: Life is full of questions. What is my purpose? What legacy will I leave? What truly matters in the end?
Solomon, having tasted the heights of wisdom, wealth, pleasure, and power, arrives at a profound conclusion. After exploring every avenue of human experience, he distills life’s meaning into one simple truth: Fear God and keep His commandments.
This is not a suggestion—it’s the essence of our existence. To fear God is to live in reverent awe of Him, to recognize His holiness, justice, and mercy. It’s not fear that drives us away, but fear that draws us near in humility and surrender.
To keep His commandments is to walk in His ways, to love as He loves, to serve as He served. It’s not about rigid rule-following, but about relationship—living in harmony with the One who made us.
At a wake, surrounded by the reality of mortality, this verse echoes louder. It reminds us that life is fleeting, but eternity is not. Our duty is not to chase shadows, but to walk in the light of God’s truth.
So today, let this be your anchor. Whether in joy or sorrow, success or struggle, remember: fearing God and obeying Him is not just part of life—it is life. Everything else fades. This remains.

Prayer: A Heart Aligned with Heaven: Heavenly Father, In the quiet moments of reflection, we hear Your voice calling us back to what truly matters. You are holy, just, and good—and we stand in awe of You.
Teach us to fear You rightly—not with dread, but with deep reverence. Let our hearts bow before Your majesty, and our lives rise in obedience to Your will.
Forgive us for chasing things that do not last. Help us to live with eternity in view, to walk in Your commandments, and to love You above all else.
May our days be marked by devotion, our choices shaped by Your truth, and our legacy be one of faithfulness.
And when our time comes to return home, may it be said of us: they feared God, and they kept His word.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
