Title: Leadership
Key Verse
"But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant." — Matthew 20:26 (NLT)
Reflection
Leadership is a sacred responsibility. It is not about power, prestige, or position, but about service, humility, and guiding others toward God’s purposes. The Bible is filled with examples of leaders—some who honored God and others who failed in their calling. Their stories remind us that leadership is ultimately stewardship of influence.
Examples of Good Leaders
- Moses: Though reluctant at first, Moses led Israel out of Egypt with faith and obedience. He interceded for the people when they sinned (Exodus 32:11–14), showing a leader’s heart of compassion.
- Nehemiah: He rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls despite opposition, demonstrating courage, vision, and reliance on prayer (Nehemiah 2:17–20).
- Jesus Christ: The perfect model of servant leadership. He washed His disciples’ feet (John 13:14–15), teaching that true greatness comes through humility and service.
Examples of Bad Leaders
- King Saul: Though chosen by God, Saul’s pride and disobedience led to his downfall (1 Samuel 15:22–23). He cared more about appearances than obedience.
- Rehoboam: Solomon’s son rejected wise counsel and listened to prideful advisors, causing division in the kingdom (1 Kings 12:13–16).
- The Pharisees: Religious leaders who burdened people with rules but neglected mercy and justice (Matthew 23:23–24). They sought honor rather than serving God’s people.
- Today, many who call themselves ministers of God resemble the Pharisees of old. Their ministry is not driven by a divine calling but by the desires of their own appetites. Instead of shepherding God’s people with humility and love, they pursue wealth, covet material possessions, and indulge in worldly pleasures. They erect mansions for themselves while burdening their congregations with endless demands for offerings and payments. Such leaders trade the sacred duty of service for personal gain, forgetting that true leadership in Christ is marked by sacrifice, integrity, and servant-heartedness. Philippians 3: 18-19.
Ask yourself, which group you belong to and begin to improve(good leader) or correct yourself(bad leader). There's always room for correction and improvement.
Lessons for Us
- Leadership is service: True leaders put others first (Philippians 2:3–4).
- Leadership requires humility: Pride destroys, but humility builds (Proverbs 16:18).
- Leadership demands accountability: Leaders are judged more strictly (James 3:1).
- Leadership must be Spirit-led: Without God’s guidance, leadership becomes self-centered (Proverbs 3:5–6).
Prayer
Lord, help me to lead like Jesus—with humility, compassion, and courage. Guard my heart from pride and selfish ambition. May my influence point others to You, and may I serve faithfully wherever You place me. Amen.
