Title: Being at Peace with Everybody.
Key Verse:
"If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." — Romans 12:18
Devotional:
Peace is one of the deepest desires of the human heart, and Scripture calls us to pursue it not only with God but also with those around us. Living at peace with everybody is not always easy, but it is a mark of Christ’s love shining through us.
1. Joseph and His Brothers (Genesis 45:4–15)
Joseph had every reason to hold bitterness against his brothers who sold him into slavery. Yet when God elevated him in Egypt, Joseph chose reconciliation over revenge. He embraced his brothers, saying, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20). His story reminds us that peace often requires forgiveness and a willingness to see God’s hand even in painful circumstances.
2. David and Saul (1 Samuel 24:1–22)
David was hunted by King Saul, yet when given the chance to kill Saul, David spared his life. He declared, “I will not lay my hand on my lord, because he is the Lord’s anointed” (v. 10). David’s restraint shows that peace sometimes means refusing to retaliate, even when wronged.
3. Jesus’ Teaching on Peacemaking (Matthew 5:9)
Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” To be a peacemaker is to reflect the very nature of our Father. It means actively seeking reconciliation, showing kindness, and letting love triumph over division.
4. Paul’s Exhortation (Romans 12:17–21)
Paul urges believers not to repay evil for evil but to overcome evil with good. He reminds us that peace is not passive—it is a deliberate choice to respond with grace, trusting God to handle justice.
Reflection:
Being at peace with everybody does not mean compromising truth or ignoring sin. It means choosing forgiveness over bitterness, kindness over hostility, and reconciliation over division. It means letting Christ’s peace rule in our hearts (Colossians 3:15) so that we can extend it to others.
When we are at peace with everybody it means we please God, and God will reward us by making our enemies to be at peace with us Proverbs 16:7.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to live at peace with those around me. Teach me to forgive as Joseph did, to show restraint as David did, and to love as Jesus taught. May Your peace guard my heart and flow through me to others. Amen.
