Title: When your time shall be over, you'll fly away.
Psalms 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Devotional: Late music legend – Peter Tosh sang a song with this title many years ago. It came to mind yesterday while I listened to a beautifully delivered sermon at a burial. I therefore penned this devotional on same title. Do not be deceived, at a point in your life you’ll fly away.
There comes a day when the tapestry of your earthly existence is folded. The moments of struggle, joy, triumph, and trials will all coalesce into a story complete. When that time comes, the soul, unburdened by the weight of the mortal frame, ascends beyond the veil of this world—taking flight toward eternal rest.
You are not bound to the temporal; your essence is celestial. As the Psalmist declared, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten...it is soon cut off, and we fly away" (Psalm 90:10). Life is but a fleeting vapour, and its purpose transcends the earthly horizon. Your time here is a preparation, a refining for that glorious moment when you shall rise, set free from the chains of this fragile clay vessel.
The promise of flight is an assurance woven into the scriptures. Isaiah speaks of a day when those who wait upon the Lord will "mount up with wings as eagles" (Isaiah 40:31). It is not a flight of despair, but one of joy, as the faithful step into the embrace of the One who has prepared a place for them (John 14:2-3).
And so, when your journey here is concluded, you shall soar—not into the unknown, but into the arms of your Creator. "For to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8). Your flight is not an end, but a beginning—eternal, boundless, glorious.
I urge you to be prepared for this eternal journey by giving your life to Jesus Christ today, tomorrow may be too late (2 Corinthians 6:2). Be blessed in Jesus’ Amen.
