1 Samuel 16:13

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

Devotion: There's a saying that winners do not quit but losers quit. Such is the story of David which is well known to you and me. He was anoited king over Israel at age between 16-19 years, according to the passage above but Saul was reigning at that time. 

David was a warrior even from his shepherd boy days and he became immensely popular when he killed Goliath. King Saul was afraid and jealous of David and he wanted to kill David who became a fugitive and lived in caves. David twice had opportunities to kill Saul but because he feared God he did not lay his hand on God's anoited. If it was you what would you do?

  David's time came when Saul and son Jonathan (David's friend) was killed in a war but he chose to reign in Hebron as king of Judah because Ishboseth son of Saul was king in Israel. Ishboseth was killed and David aged 30 years was prevailed (2 Samuel 5:1-5) upon to assume kingship over the whole of Israel in Jerusalem, that was seven and half years after reigning in Hebron. He reigned a further thirty three and half years in Jerusalem for a total of forty years. 

 Now why this story, David eventually became King overcoming several obstacles, threat to life etc because he believed God and stood firm in his believe. He did not deviate from the Lord and feared God in all he did. He got it because he really wanted it with assistance of God after waiting for 11-15 years.

  I don't know what you had been struggling with or for, I struggled to become a family physician, I really wanted to and with God I became a successful family physician. So I urge you to trust God and persevere like David you'll achieve your goals and very soon too.

  Dearly beloved, you can get it if you really want, but you must prayerfully try and try.
