Title: Confidence in Christ: A Biblical Perspective.
Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Devotion: The journey of faith is one of trust and assurance in the unfailing promises of God. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that the good work God begins in us will be perfected until the day of Jesus Christ. This confidence is not based on human ability or circumstances but on the unwavering faithfulness of God.
Throughout the Bible, we see examples of individuals who placed their confidence in Christ and witnessed His faithfulness in completing what He started.
1. Abraham – Confidence in God's Promise
Abraham was called by God to leave his homeland and journey to an unknown land with the promise of becoming the father of many nations (Genesis 12:1-3). Despite his old age and Sarah’s barrenness, Abraham believed in God's promise. Romans 4:20-21 states that Abraham "did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised." His confidence in God led to the fulfillment of the promise, as Isaac was born, and through him, the nation of Israel emerged.
2. Joseph – Confidence in God's Plan
Joseph endured betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment, yet he remained confident in God's plan for his life. Despite the hardships, he held onto the dreams God had given him. In Genesis 50:20, Joseph reassures his brothers, saying, "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." His unwavering confidence in God led him to a position of power in Egypt, where he saved many from famine.
3. David – Confidence in God's Strength
When David faced Goliath, he did not rely on his own strength but on his confidence in God. In 1 Samuel 17:45, David boldly declares, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty." His trust in God led to victory, proving that confidence in Christ empowers us to overcome challenges.
4. Paul – Confidence in God's Grace
Paul endured persecution, imprisonment, and hardships, yet his confidence in Christ never wavered. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, he acknowledges, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." His confidence was rooted in the sufficiency of God's grace, enabling him to fulfill his mission despite adversity.
These biblical examples illustrate that confidence in Christ is not based on circumstances but on the certainty of His promises. Whatever God has started in your life, He is faithful to complete. Trust in Him, hold onto His Word, and walk in faith, knowing that He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
What are your thoughts on this? Have you experienced God's faithfulness in completing what He started in your life? I'd love to hear your reflections!
