Title : Giving and God's Faithfulness.
Luke 6:38 (KJV) declares:
"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
Devotion: In life, generosity is more than a noble virtue; it is a spiritual principle deeply rooted in the Word of God. The Bible teaches us that giving is not just an obligation but an invitation to experience divine abundance.
This verse speaks of a truth that transcends time—the certainty that when we give from a sincere heart, God ensures we receive abundantly in return. It is a reminder that generosity is not merely about material possessions but encompasses kindness, compassion, and selflessness.
However, life's challenges often test our willingness to give. At times, the enemy seeks to discourage us by making generosity feel like a loss rather than a blessing. We might encounter situations where our kindness is taken for granted or where our giving appears to bear no immediate reward. But the truth remains: God sees every act of generosity and does not take kindness lightly. He promises that giving will always yield a return, often in ways we least expect.
Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) reinforces this:
"A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed."
Have you been experiencing scarcity in some areas of your life? Are you waiting on God for a breakthrough? Perhaps it is time to reflect on the nature of your giving. As Scripture teaches, our blessings often come in proportion to the measure of generosity we extend to others. If we give with hesitation or reluctance, we limit the depth of what we can receive. But if we give in faith, trusting in God's provision, He opens the floodgates of His blessings upon us.
The greatest example of generosity is found in God Himself. John 3:16 reminds us:
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
This act of divine giving—sacrificing His Son for our redemption—demonstrates that love is inseparable from generosity. As believers, we are called to model this love in our actions. Whether giving financially, extending kindness, or offering encouragement, we reflect the heart of God when we give without reservation.
Prayer point.
Abba Father, thank You for teaching us the beauty of generosity through Your example. You gave Your most precious Son for our salvation, showing us that giving is an act of love. Help us to trust You with our resources and to give cheerfully, knowing You will always provide. Strengthen our hearts so that even in challenging times, we may remain faithful in our giving, remembering Your kindness toward us. May we follow Your lead and obey You in all things, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Personal Testimony:
The principle of giving has been heavily debated, with some distorting its true meaning. While some exploit Luke 6:38 for personal gain, others dismiss the idea of tangible blessings tied to generosity. Yet, in my personal life, I have seen the undeniable rewards of giving.
There was a time when my total income amounted to just ₦2,500. Despite my own needs, I felt led to share this amount with the poor around me. What happened next stunned me—within an hour, a friend sent me ₦100,000! On another occasion, I gave my car away and spent three months walking, only to receive an unexpected salary arrears payment that allowed me to buy another vehicle. I have even secured an international job within months of sacrificial giving.
These experiences affirm one truth: when you give from a good conscience and a sincere heart, God rewards you in ways beyond expectation.
May this reflection inspire you to remain steadfast in generosity, trusting that God is faithful to His promises.
