Title: Equity, Justice and Peace.
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Amos 5:24 KJV
Devotion: .... everyone is crying out for peace, but none is crying out justice, I don't want no peace but equal rights and justice(Peter Tosh), but the situation has moved from equal rights to equity.
We live in a world where might is right and the weak are permanently trampled under the feet. As long as these continue between rich and poor nations, powerful and weak nations and between individuals there cannot be peace.
The weak and poor will organize themselves into bandits, terror groups and torment the rich. This is what is happening in so many parts of the world today.
It is not enough to achieve equality which democracy advocates in which the weak do not get assistance. The weak becomes homeless, unable to afford 3 meals in a day and cannot settle hospital bills. There's need to move further to achieve equity, where the weak and poor are assisted to achieve their goals.
The only solution to this is to ensure equity. This is what God demands from you and me this morning. It is not enough to say I love God but fail to love our neighbor. We can only see that love when you rise up to assist the poor, the weak, aged in the neighborhood(John 3 :17-18). When you give scholarship to indigent student, help to get a job etc is your practice of equity.
When equity is achieved, then we can talk of judgement to take care of the deviants in the society and only then will there be peace. The sum of these is that righteousness must prevail, there must be love and kindness then equity will lead to peace.
Dearly beloved, I urge you to ensure equity and love to the weak and poor in your neighborhood then peace will reign. Please share your comments with us here.
