Title: The Beauty and Blessing of the Lord!
Psalms 90:17 (KJV) "And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."
Devotion: In this verse, Moses, the author of Psalm 90, concludes his prayer with a powerful request for God's beauty and blessing to be upon His people. Let's explore the profound meaning and significance of this verse.
When Moses asks for "the beauty of the LORD our God" to be upon us, he is seeking the divine presence and favor of God. This beauty is not merely aesthetic; it encompasses God's holiness, glory, and goodness. It is an invitation for God's character to shine through His people, reflecting His splendor and majesty in their lives. The bible in Psalm 27:4 says "One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple." Do you seek God regularly?
In the second post of the psalm, Moses also prays for God to "establish thou the work of our hands." This is a plea for God's blessing and success in all that His people undertake. It acknowledges that true and lasting success comes not from human effort alone but from God's divine intervention and support. It is a recognition that our endeavors are meaningful and fruitful only when they are undergirded by God's favor. This is the reason we must "Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." Proverbs 16:3.
The repetition of "the work of our hands establish thou it" emphasizes the importance of God's partnership in our labors. It underscores the humility and dependence of believers on God's providence. By seeking God's blessing, we acknowledge that our abilities and efforts are limited without His empowerment. We have to recognise that our success depends on God alone. Paul confirmed this in Philippians 2:13 when he says "For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."
The implications for Our Lives include the following
1. As believers, we are called to reflect God's beauty in our actions, attitudes, and relationships. By living in accordance with His will, we become vessels of His glory, spreading His love and grace to those around us.
2. In all our endeavors, we should seek God's blessing and guidance. Whether in our careers, studies, or personal projects, inviting God to establish the work of our hands brings meaning, purpose, and success.
3. Acknowledging our dependence on God's strength helps us remain humble and grounded. It reminds us that our achievements are not solely the result of our efforts but are a testament to God's faithfulness and provision. Please note that "Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain." Psalm 127:1 -l
In conclusion, Psalms 90:17 is a beautiful prayer that invites us to seek the presence, favor, and blessing of God in all aspects of our lives. By reflecting His beauty and depending on His strength, we can experience true and lasting success.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your beauty and blessing. We ask that Your presence be upon us, guiding and establishing the work of our hands. Help us to reflect Your glory in all we do and to seek Your favor in every endeavor. May our lives be a testimony of Your goodness and faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
As we meditate on this verse, let us commit to seeking God's beauty and blessing in our lives, trusting Him to establish and bless the work of our hands. Hallelujah.
