Title: Where Did You Keep It?
Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Devotion: "Where did you keep it?" This question, though simple, holds profound significance in the realm of faith. It is a query that prompts introspection, urging us to examine our priorities and the state of our hearts.
In Matthew 6:21, Jesus declares, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." This verse serves as a poignant reminder that our true allegiance lies with the object of our affection. If our hearts are fixated on earthly riches, then our treasure is earthly. However, if our hearts are centered on God, then our treasure is heavenly.
The parable of the talents, as recorded in Matthew 25:14-30, further illustrates this concept. A master entrusts his servants with varying amounts of talents, expecting them to utilize these resources wisely. Upon his return, the master commends the servants who have multiplied their talents, but rebukes the servant who has buried his talent, failing to yield any return.
This parable serves as a powerful allegory for our lives. We have each been entrusted with unique gifts, talents, and resources. The question remains: where have we kept them? Have we invested them in eternal pursuits, or have we squandered them on fleeting pleasures?
As the apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 4:2, "Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful." We are stewards of God's blessings, and we will be held accountable for how we utilize them.
As we reflect on this question, "Where did you keep it?" may we be prompted to examine our priorities, to reevaluate our use of time, talents, and resources. May we strive to keep our treasure in heaven, where moth and rust do not corrupt, and where thieves do not break in and steal (Matthew 6:20). For it is in storing up treasure in heaven that we will truly find our hearts.
