Title: Live a Purpose Driven Life.
"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 3:14
Devotion: My dear Daughter and Son, at this moment in your life, what you need most is clarity of purpose. When you fix your eyes on your future, you begin to live intentionally. That’s what it means to live a purpose-driven life. School is not just a routine—it’s preparation for a future that is independent, fruitful, and joyful. But this future won’t arrive by accident. It demands diligence today. So I urge you: work hard now, because your purpose is worth it.
Let’s explore how knowing your God-given purpose transforms both your physical and spiritual life.
Purpose Gives Meaning
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart." — Jeremiah 1:5
You are not an accident. God designed you with intention. Like Joseph, whose journey from pit to palace was filled with trials, your path may not be easy—but it is meaningful. Joseph understood his purpose when he said to his brothers, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20). Purpose gives pain a reason and success a direction.
Purpose Simplifies Life
"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." — Psalm 90:12
When you know your purpose, you stop wasting time. Jesus lived only 33 years, yet every moment was intentional. He didn’t chase popularity or comfort—He pursued His mission. Likewise, when you understand your calling, you’ll learn to say no to distractions and yes to what truly matters.
Purpose Focuses Life
"Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you." — Proverbs 4:25
Imagine a runner constantly looking back—he’ll stumble. Hebrews 12:1-2 urges us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” Focus keeps you on track. Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls despite opposition because he refused to be distracted. He said, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down” (Nehemiah 6:3). That’s focus.
Purpose Motivates Life
"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 3:14
Purpose fuels passion. Rick Warren once said, “It is usually meaningless work, not overwork, that wears us down.” When you know why you’re doing something, even hard tasks become bearable. Think of David facing Goliath—not for fame, but to defend God’s honor. Purpose gave him courage.
Purpose Prepares You for Eternity
"So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God." — Romans 14:12
Earthly trophies fade. Dr. James Dobson once received his college tennis trophy in the mail—someone had found it in the trash. That’s the fate of all earthly achievements. But eternal purpose lasts. C.S. Lewis said, “Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.” You were not created to be remembered—you were created to prepare for eternity.
Prayer
Lord, help me to live with purpose. Let me not be distracted by what is temporary, but focused on what is eternal. Teach me to work hard, love deeply, and pursue the calling You’ve placed on my life. May I fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith. Amen.
This is written for youths, to urge them to live right and with focus.
