Title: Sickness and Healing.
1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Devotion: Sickness can be understood as a disruption of health. It may be physical, where the body loses strength or ability—sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently. It may also be spiritual, when the soul is weakened through sin and separation from God.
Physical sickness often arises naturally, yet it can sometimes be prevented by caring for ourselves and our environment. Spiritual sickness, however, is entirely preventable. God Himself promised: “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26, NKJV)
When sickness comes, whether physical or spiritual, God has provided a way of healing. The prayers of the faithful are powerful. James reminds us: “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him… And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.” (James 5:14–15, NKJV)
This is why fellowship with other believers is vital. In times of weakness, the prayers of the brethren can bring strength and healing. As Scripture declares: “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16, NKJV)
Reflection for Today: I urge you this morning to lift up someone who is ill in prayer. It may be that God has been waiting for your intercession to release His healing power. Whether physical or spiritual, sickness bows to the authority of Christ, who bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows (Isaiah 53:4–5).
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being our Healer. Strengthen us to walk in obedience, keep us from spiritual sickness, and use us as vessels of prayer to bring healing to others. Amen.
This morning, I urge you to embrace Christ — the One by whose stripes you are healed and will be healed (Isaiah 53:5). Your sins were nailed to the cross with Jesus, and through Him you are set free. Choose to walk in obedience, and you will discover the abiding joy of the Lord. Amen. (John15:10-11)
