Title: God Will Provide Through the Work of Our Hands.

Scripture focus: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.”  Luke 12:22, KJV

Devotion: This verse has often been misunderstood to mean that believers should not work, but that is not the message Jesus was giving. To interpret Scripture correctly, we must read it in context. In the preceding passage, Jesus spoke of the rich man who stored up wealth for himself, forgetting that his blessings were meant to serve others. Jesus then pointed to the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap, yet they roam and search diligently for food—and God provides for them. Their effort is blessed by God’s provision.
The Bible consistently teaches that God blesses our labor, not idleness. In Deuteronomy 28:12, God promises: “The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure… and bless all the work of thine hand.” Work is the channel through which God’s provision flows. Paul reinforces this truth in 2 Thessalonians 3:10: “If any would not work, neither should he eat.” He also wrote in 1 Timothy 5:8: “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
Therefore, ministry or discipleship is not a call to laziness, but to faithful stewardship. God provides, but He does so by blessing the diligence of our hands. Just as the birds search for food and are sustained, so must we labor in righteousness, trusting that God will prosper our efforts.
True faith is not passive—it is active obedience. We work, and God provides. We sow, and He gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:7). Our confidence rests not in our strength, but in His promise to bless the labor of our hands.
Too many people spend their time on social media criticizing the government without lifting a finger themselves. If you put in the work diligently and pray, you’ll earn your living instead of just complaining.
