Title: The Lesson from a Hen: A Devotional on Patience and Purpose.

The journey of a hen sitting on her eggs is a powerful metaphor for faith, patience, and unwavering purpose. For twenty-one days, she waits, diligently tending to her eggs without distraction, doubt, or complaint. She does not see the life forming within, yet she trusts the process. This mirrors our spiritual walk—sometimes, we labor in faith, unseen and unacknowledged, but divine fulfillment comes in due time.
1) Patience Like Noah.
In Genesis 6-9, Noah was commanded to build an ark when there was no sign of rain. For years, he constructed it, enduring ridicule and skepticism from those around him. He trusted God's timing, and after the flood, his obedience bore fruit—he and his family were saved. Like the hen, Noah worked patiently, knowing that God's promises would be fulfilled in His perfect time.
_"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD."_ —Psalm 27:14
2) Unwavering Faith Like Abraham.
Abraham was given a promise that he would be the father of many nations, but he and Sarah waited for years before Isaac was born (Genesis 21). They endured seasons of doubt, but God’s promise came to pass. Like the hen who does not see inside the eggs but trusts life is forming, Abraham relied on faith and saw the manifestation of God’s word.
_"Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!"_ —Luke 1:45
3) Focused Purpose Like Nehemiah.
Nehemiah rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem despite opposition (Nehemiah 4). He did not allow distractions or fear to deter him. Like the hen, he stayed committed to his task, guarding it with diligence. Eventually, the wall was completed, proving the power of perseverance.
_"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."_ —Galatians 6:9
Encouragement for Today.
Are you in a season where your work feels unnoticed or unrecognized? Keep pressing forward. Like the hen, Noah, Abraham, and Nehemiah, your perseverance will bring results. Trust in the process, remain patient, stay faithful, and in God’s timing, your labor will bear fruit.
Stay steadfast and be blessed.
