Title: Divine Healing.
Scripture:
"For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow." Philippians 2:27 (KJV)
Devotional:
Epaphroditus, a faithful companion of Paul, fell gravely ill—so much so that death seemed imminent. Yet, Paul turned to the Lord in prayer, and God, in His mercy, healed him. This moment reminds us of the boundless power of God to heal and restore, even when all hope seems lost.
Jesus Himself affirmed this truth: "For with God nothing shall be impossible." — Luke 1:37 (KJV) And again, He said: "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." — Luke 18:27 (KJV)
These verses underscore that divine healing is not limited by human understanding or medical prognosis. It is rooted in God's sovereign will and mercy.
Understanding Sickness:
Many Christians believe that sickness is always a direct attack from the devil. While Scripture does show instances where Satan afflicts people (e.g., Job 2:7), it’s important to recognize that not all illness is demonic in origin.
Sickness can result from:
- Natural causes: Exposure to cold, poor hygiene, or environmental factors like stagnant water that breed disease.
- Lifestyle choices: Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and risky behaviors can damage the body.
- Neglect or extremes: Prolonged dry fasting without medical guidance may harm the kidneys. Unregulated herbal remedies can be toxic.
- Aging and genetics: The body naturally degenerates over time, and hereditary conditions may manifest regardless of spiritual factors.
The Bible teaches that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit:
"Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you…?" — 1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV) Therefore, caring for our physical health is a spiritual responsibility.
God’s Mercy in Healing:
Even when sickness arises from our own actions or natural causes, God remains merciful. He invites us to call upon Him:
"Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me." — Psalm 50:15 (KJV)
Healing may come through prayer, medical intervention, or divine intervention. What matters is our posture of faith and surrender.
A Life of Obedience:
Let us strive to live in obedience to God—not only for spiritual growth but also for physical well-being.
"If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God… I will put none of these diseases upon thee… for I am the Lord that healeth thee." — Exodus 15:26 (KJV)
Obedience aligns us with God’s will and opens the door to His healing power.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your mercy and healing power. Help us to honor You with our bodies, to live wisely, and to trust You in times of sickness. May we walk in obedience and faith, knowing that You are the Lord who heals. Amen.
