Title: Waiting on God's Timing.
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:31 KJV.
"that even in seasons of pain, uncertainty, or silence, God’s goodness is not absent—it is revealed to those who patiently trust Him." bible.art+1
Devotion: Waiting on God’s Timing
Waiting is not passive; it is an active trust in God’s sovereignty. Isaiah 40:31 echoes this promise: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
When we wait, we acknowledge that God’s timing is perfect. Abraham waited decades for the promise of Isaac, and though his faith wavered at times, God’s goodness was revealed in the fulfillment of His word (Genesis 21:1-2).
Seeking God in the Midst of Trials
The verse also emphasizes seeking God. Psalm 34:10 assures us:
"The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing."
Seeking God means turning our hearts toward Him in prayer, worship, and obedience. Hannah, in her anguish over barrenness, sought the Lord in prayer (1 Samuel 1:10-11). Her persistence and faith were rewarded when God blessed her with Samuel.
God’s Goodness in Dark Seasons
Jeremiah’s declaration is powerful because it comes in the middle of lament. It teaches us that God’s goodness is not dependent on circumstances. Romans 8:28 reminds us:
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
Joseph’s story illustrates this truth. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and imprisoned unjustly, Joseph still experienced God’s goodness. In the end, he could say to his brothers: “Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good” (Genesis 50:20).
Reflection
- Are you in a season of waiting? Trust that God’s timing is perfect.
- Are you seeking Him earnestly? His goodness is revealed to those who pursue Him wholeheartedly.
- Do your circumstances feel overwhelming? Remember that His goodness shines brightest in the darkest valleys.
Prayer
Lord, teach us to wait patiently and to seek You diligently. Help us to trust Your goodness even when life feels uncertain. May our souls find rest in Your promises, and may we see Your hand at work in every season. Amen.
