Title: Still on Choices!

Judges 18 : 5  And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.

Devotion: Counsel is an advice given as a result of consultation. It is not forced on a person but it is born out of a discussion on which all sides of an issue is well considered and the counselee is allowed to make a decision.

Spiritual counsel is a consultation with the prophet of God who prays and seeks the face of God in a matter and then makes known to the counselee God's position. In the verse above the children of Israel sought to know the will of God before embarking on a mission.

Young Christians are expected to seek counsel from mature successful Christian elders on matters that may affect their lives permanently, an example marriage or  carrier choice. The elder will pray with them, teach them and guide them from the word of God and allow them to make a choice.

This is also a parental function to their growing children. The family must have an alter at home where they pray together, study the Bible and Bible principles on marriage and carrier are explicitly explained to the children so that they can make a wise decision. This is important because once made a marriage should not be dissolved. A bad carrier choice can affect the financial security of a person in future.

Failure to seek counsel leads to bad decision and poor outcome, in some cases it leads to disaster. The young king Rehoboam failed to listen to the counsel of the elders and he brought disaster on Israel (1 Kings 12:13-14 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him; And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.) This lead to revolt against the house of David and permanent division of Israel.

I urge our youths and children to listen to the counsel of their parents and elders it will do them a lot of good. On your journey to eternity I urge you, if you have not given your life to God to do before it is to late. Remember your choices your life. This is my counsel to you. Halleluyah.
