Title: Godpower, Not Horsepower!

"Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God. They are brought down and fallen: but we are risen, and stand upright." Psalm 20:7-8 KJV
Devotion: In the time of King David, chariots and horses were considered the best military arsenal a kingdom could have. They provided security and confidence to those who had them! However, David showed us a deeper truth: Our true security and victory are not brought about by our intellect, power, abilities, or resources but by trusting in the name of the Lord. No human might can defeat the power of darkness but only the power of God. It’s foolish to rely on man's capacity when God's invincible and unfailing power has been made available to His people; we only need to ask Him and rely on Him.
Beloved, in our daily lives, these "chariots" may mean putting all our trust in financial stability, career success, technological advancements, superior intellect, influence and connections, or anything that we put our hope on that is grounded in human ability and resources. They are not inherently bad, but when we rely upon them for our identity, security, and purpose, they will only lead us to disappointment and empty victories. Our bank accounts and reputation may be full, but our souls become empty and always dissatisfied. We must ask ourselves what the "chariots" and "horses" are that we might be trusting in. Are we too reliant on our job, position, savings, or social status for security and purpose?
So beloved, we do not need to look for or even envy human success and riches, for they are temporal. But we have the power of God and His great love with us, and this is far superior to anything you can find in this world!
Prayer point: Heavenly Father, help us to rely upon You for our identity, security, and purpose. Remind us not to put all our hopes in human power but to have the faith to trust in Your name. We acknowledge that true security and victory will always come from trusting in You. And when Your blessings come in Your time, we are not destroyed but grateful and faithful to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
