Title: Concentrate on What You Have.

“He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.” — Proverbs 12:11

Devotion: The kingdom of God is built upon divine principles that guide us toward a life of purpose, fruitfulness, and eternal impact. One such principle is the call to focus on what God has entrusted to us—our gifts, talents, and spiritual endowments.
From the beginning, God has always equipped His people with what they need to thrive. Consider Moses: when he doubted his ability to lead, God asked, “What is that in thine hand?” (Exodus 4:2). It was a simple staff, yet through it, God performed mighty miracles. The lesson? What you have is enough when surrendered to God.
Similarly, the widow in 2 Kings 4 had only a jar of oil, but when she obeyed the prophet Elisha and poured it out, it multiplied until every vessel was filled. Her breakthrough came not from chasing after others’ resources, but from using what she already had.
Jesus Himself emphasized this principle in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30). The servants who invested and developed their talents were rewarded, while the one who buried his gift out of fear was rebuked. God expects us to cultivate what He has given us—both natural and spiritual gifts.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 that the Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to each believer as He wills. These gifts—wisdom, healing, prophecy, discernment, and more—are not for personal glory but for the edification of the body of Christ.
When David faced Goliath, he didn’t borrow Saul’s armor. He used his sling and stones—tools he had mastered in the field while tending sheep (1 Samuel 17). His victory came through faith and familiarity with his own gifts.
Beloved, do not be distracted by the glitter of others’ callings or the noise of vain pursuits. Instead, till your land. Develop your gifts. Sharpen your talents. Sow faithfully, and you will reap abundantly.
And when your harvest comes, remember the words of Jesus: “Freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8). Share your blessings, encourage the weak, and build up the body of Christ.
Hallelujah! You are equipped. You are gifted. You are called.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you identified your God-given gifts and talents?
- Are you actively developing and using them for His glory?
- How can you bless others with what you’ve received?
