Title: Consider Your Ways.
Scripture Focus:
"Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways." — Haggai 1:5
Reflection
In Haggai chapter 1, God rebuked the people for prioritizing their paneled houses while His temple lay in ruins. They were busy adorning their own lives with comfort and luxury, yet neglecting what truly mattered — honoring God and caring for His work.
Today, this message speaks directly to how we live in our communities. We often pursue ostentatious living — fine clothes, expensive gadgets, lavish celebrations — while ignoring the plight of the indigent, the elderly poor, the lame, and the marginalized around us. The Lord calls us to pause and consider our ways.
Counsel from the word of God.
- Proverbs 19:17 — “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will He pay him again.”
Caring for the poor is not charity; it is worship. God Himself counts it as a loan to Him.
- James 2:15–16 — If we see a brother or sister in need and only offer words without action, our faith is empty.
- Matthew 25:40 — Jesus reminds us that whatever we do for “the least of these,” we do for Him.
- 1 John 3:17 — If we have material possessions and close our hearts to those in need, how can God’s love truly dwell in us?
How to you apply this to our community Life
- Generosity: Instead of flaunting wealth, let us invest in lifting up the weak.
- Compassion: Visit the elderly poor, support the lame, and extend kindness to the indigent.
- Stewardship: Our resources are entrusted to us by God, not for selfish display but for service.
- Humility: True greatness is measured not by what we own, but by how we love.
God’s call through Haggai is timeless: “Consider your ways.” Let us examine our hearts and lifestyles. Are we building only our own “paneled houses,” or are we building lives of mercy, justice, and compassion? May we choose the latter, so that our community reflects the heart of Christ.
Heavenly Father, We thank You for Your Word that calls us to pause and reflect: “Consider your ways.” Lord, forgive us for the times we have pursued our own comfort while neglecting the poor, the elderly, the lame, and the vulnerable in our community.Teach us to walk in compassion, to see the needs around us, and to respond with generosity. May our lives reflect the love of Christ, who gave Himself for us. Help us to remember that whatever we do for “the least of these,” we do unto You.Grant us humility to live simply, wisdom to steward our resources well, and courage to serve others faithfully. Let our ways bring honor to Your name and healing to our community. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
