Title: Confidence in Christ.
Scripture focus: John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Devotion: Confidence, as Merriam-Webster defines it, is “faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper, or effective way.” In everyday life, we see this kind of confidence expressed in remarkable ways. For instance, when people go to the hospital, they entrust their lives to doctors and nurses. They willingly submit to anesthesia and surgery, fully believing that the process will be successful. That is confidence in human ability.
Yet, when it comes to faith in Christ Jesus, many struggle to believe. They find it difficult to trust Him to deliver them from a sinful lifestyle or to prepare a place for them in heaven. Jesus Himself said, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:1–2). Sadly, many doubt this promise.
Some people think that their good works alone will secure heaven for them. While good works are commendable and beneficial to humanity, Scripture makes it clear that salvation is not earned by deeds. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). Good works are important, but without Christ as Lord and Savior, they cannot open the gates of heaven. As Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
Therefore, the true “visa” to heaven is grace through Jesus Christ, accompanied by a life that bears good fruit. “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). This transformation is what gives confidence—not in ourselves, but in the saving power of Christ.
Beloved, tomorrow is not guaranteed. “Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth” (Proverbs 27:1). Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). I urge you to surrender your life to Christ, forsake sin, and begin to walk in righteousness. Only then will you have the confidence that your eternity is secure.
May God help you to trust fully in Him. Share your thoughts here, let your contacts benefit from this devotional, share it with them.
