Title: The Wisdom of the Anthill.

Scripture focus: "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest." Proverbs 6:6-8 (NIV)

Reflection: We have all had those mornings where the bed feels a little too comfortable, the alarm clock feels like a personal attack, and the motivation to get things done is nowhere to be found. A little rest is healthy, but there is a fine line between resting and slipping into a habit of laziness.
When God wanted to give us a masterclass on work ethic, He didn’t point us to the CEOs, the influencers, or the high-achievers of ancient times. He pointed us to a tiny, easily overlooked insect: 'the ant'.
Ants uses initiative rather than supervision. Ants don’t need a boss standing over them with a clipboard. They don’t wait for a performance review or a threat of being fired to get to work. They see what needs to be done, and they do it.
Laziness often waits for external pressure—a deadline, a parent's reminder, or a boss's reprimand. But godly diligence operates from internal character.
Ants prepare for the future rather than  procrastinate, they understand the assignment of the current season. They work hard in the summer because they know winter is coming. Laziness tells us, "I’ll do it tomorrow," but tomorrow has its own set of responsibilities.
As Proverbs 20:4 warns us:"Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing." When we procrastinate, we aren't just delaying a task; we are robbing ourselves of a future harvest.
We should see diligence as worship. It’s easy to separate our spiritual lives from our daily tasks, but God cares about our work ethic. Diligence isn't just about being busy; it’s about honoring the gifts, time, and opportunities God has entrusted to us.
The Apostle Paul echoes this in the New Testament, when he wrote that "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." Col 3:23
Therefore we should reflect and act appropriately. When we work with diligence, we reflect the character of God, who is constantly creating, sustaining, and working for our good. Today, let’s stop looking for shortcuts and start looking at the ant.
Identify one area where you’ve been putting things off or giving less than your best effort.
Commit it to the Lord, and take the first small, disciplined step toward getting it done today.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the times I have let laziness and procrastination steal my time and potential. Give me the wisdom and self-discipline of the ant. Help me to work with an excellent spirit today, doing everything as an act of worship to You. Amen.
