Title:Peace with Enemies.

“When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” Proverbs 16:7 KJV

Many of us live near, work with, or share community spaces with people who are simply hard to get along with. No matter how carefully we try to please them, the tension remains. The harder we strive for their approval, the more elusive peace becomes.

Scripture offers a different path. Peace with difficult people is not primarily won by managing their personalities; it is the fruit of a life that first pleases the Lord. When our ways align with His heart, God Himself can soften even those who once stood against us.

How do we please God?
First, by surrendering our lives to Christ and walking in obedience to His Word. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Second, by allowing His love to flow through us toward others—including those we find difficult. The Bible declares, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). Therefore, the children of God are marked by love: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34).

Jesus raises the standard even higher: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). When we choose this costly love—treating others as we ourselves would want to be treated (Matthew 7:12)—we please the Father. In response, He works in ways we cannot manufacture. People begin to notice an unexplainable calm around us. The person once labeled “difficult” may gradually lower their defenses. What human effort could not achieve, the favor of God can accomplish.

This does not mean every relationship will become effortless or that we ignore wisdom and boundaries. It does mean that our primary pursuit is not the approval of people but the smile of God. As we walk in love, the promise of Proverbs 16:7 becomes living reality: even enemies can be brought to peace.

Reflection:
The key to peace with everyone is love rooted in Christ. Love your neighbor as yourself. Do to others what you would have them do to you. When your ways please the Lord, He is able to make even the most resistant hearts rest in peace with you.
