Title: Peace in place of Anxiety!
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
Devotion: It was near time for Jesus to be taken from his disciples and He knew they were worried so Jesus assured them. Chapters 14 &15 of the Gospel according to Saint John is both teaching and assurance and reassurance to the believer. If you want to enjoy peace on earth you have to be a follower of Christ and you want to live in the house Jesus has gone to prepare you must be a follower of Christ. The verse of today John 14:27 is particularly reassuring, so let's break it down:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.”
Jesus is offering a special kind of peace, distinct from what the world can provide. This peace is rooted in His presence and promises. It is not the type of peace money, power or position can buy.
“I do not give to you as the world gives.”
The peace Jesus gives is not temporary or superficial. Unlike worldly peace, which can be fleeting and dependent on circumstances, His peace is enduring and transcends all situations.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Jesus encourages His followers to remain calm and fearless, even in the face of challenges. This assurance is meant to comfort and strengthen them, knowing that His peace is with them always. This is the type of peace that Meschak, Shadrach and Abednego had when they were thrown into fiery furnace, they were singing praises and the child of God (Jesus) appeared and unlose their shackles. Same happend in the den of lions and in the prison when Paul and Silas was thrown there.
You can enjoy this peace today if you give your life to Christ and fully trust him. Jesus says in John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." If Jesus is truly your Lord and Saviour you will also overcome the world and enjoy Jesus' type of peace.
This verse is often interpreted as a reminder that true peace comes from a relationship with Jesus, and it is a peace that can sustain us through any difficulty. How does this passage resonate with you?
