Title: Be humble, point others to Christ!
"Again the next day, John stood with two of his disciples, and seeing Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, 'Behold, the Lamb of God!' The two disciples heard him and followed Jesus." (John 1:35-37, KJV)
Devotion: John the Baptist's selfless example teaches us valuable lessons:
Humility in Leadership
As a prominent leader with a growing ministry, John unlike many self styled ministers of today, could have easily become prideful. Instead, he remained secure in his role as a herald of Christ, continually pointing others to Jesus, even his own disciples.
Dangers of Pride:
When pride, power, and fame inflate our ego, we risk opposing God and facing humiliation. Talents, success, and recognition are gifts from God, not grounds for self-exaltation.
Many Televangelists see themselves as the ultimate and claim glory that rightly belongs to God. Some are bold enough to claim that they are human and can commit sin at anytime. I watched a video clip in which a televangelist claimed that he has right to pleasure with women from the congregation.
The Power of Humility:
By humbling ourselves for God's glory, we invite His lifting hand. There's no greater honor than recognition from our Lord Himself. Those who fail to humble themselves before God soon go into oblivion and go into sorcery in a bid to remain relevant.
Prayer Point: Dear Lord, Thank You for entrusting us with life's responsibilities. Help us remember that when we serve You and not ourselves, Please help us to focus on pointing others to You, giving You all the glory. Amen
May we humble ourselves, acknowledging Your supremacy. May our hearts proclaim, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world! Follow Him!"
All glory belongs to You, Lord, in Jesus' name. Amen!
Ask yourselves these questions:
1. How can you apply John the Baptist's humility to your own life and leadership?
2. What are some areas where pride may be creeping in, and how can you surrender them to God?
3. How can you intentionally point others to Jesus today?
