Title: Lack of Knowledge!

Hosea 4:6  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Devotion: Hosea 4:6 is a powerful verse that highlights the consequences of rejecting divine knowledge and forgetting God’s law. Here’s a breakdown from a spiritual biblical perspective:

Context and Meaning: In the book of Hosea, the prophet Hosea addresses the spiritual and moral decay of Israel. The verse specifically points out that the people are suffering because they lack knowledge of God. This isn’t just intellectual knowledge but a deep, relational understanding and commitment to God’s ways.

Key Points:

Lack of Knowledge: The “knowledge” referred to here is about knowing God personally and understanding His laws. It’s about living in a way that reflects His teachings and commandments.

Rejection of Knowledge: The people of Israel had access to God’s laws and teachings but chose to ignore them, they started sinning (worship other gods). This rejection led to their downfall.

Consequences: Because they rejected God’s knowledge, God declares that He will reject them as His priests. This means they would lose their special status and the blessings that come with it. They were conquered by ungodly nations

Forgetting God’s Law: Forgetting here implies a deliberate neglect of God’s commandments. This neglect leads to a breakdown in their relationship with God, resulting in severe consequences not just for them but for their descendants as well.

Spiritual Lessons

Importance of Divine Knowledge: This verse underscores the importance of seeking and maintaining a deep relationship with God. It’s not enough to know about God; one must live according to His teachings.

Consequences of Neglect: Ignoring or rejecting God’s laws leads to spiritual and moral decay, which can have far-reaching consequences. May God save our nations.

Role of Leaders: The priests and leaders have a responsibility to teach and uphold God’s laws. Their failure to do so can lead to the downfall of the entire community. You and me have a big role to play in our colleges, places of work and in the neighbourhood. We need to preach Christ to people around us.

This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of staying true to God’s teachings and the dangers of spiritual neglect. We need to remain steadfast to the word of God and thereby get true knowledge of Him.
