Title: Honoring Parents: A Foundation for Life.
Exodus 20:12, Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Devotion: This commandment holds profound spiritual significance, let's break it down:
Why Honor Parents?
1. Social Order: Honoring parents establishes respect for authority, fostering harmonious relationships within families and communities. A community where this law of God is obeyed is always peaceful
2. Divine Authority: Parents represent God's authority on earth. Honoring them acknowledges and respects God's divine order.
3. Longevity: This commandment promises long life in the land given by God, both literally and metaphorically, ensuring a thriving society and fulfilling life. Children who obey are disciplined and do not engage in risky acts that may cut their lives short. They thrive in their endeavours because they are disciplined.
4. Spiritual Growth: Honoring parents teaches discipline, humility, and gratitude, essential virtues for spiritual growth and a closer relationship with God. Such children follow in the footsteps of their parents.
5. Universal Principle: This commandment transcends religious boundaries, emphasizing the importance of family and respect for elders across cultures.
In today's societies, where parental authority is often disregarded, we see alarming consequences: lack of discipline, increased criminality, and disregard for human life. Honoring parents is crucial for a stable and spiritually enriched life.
6. Follow God's instruction
God did not put a condition to honor them: the only reason to honour them is that they were a channel through whom you came to this earth. Your parents might have not been supportive during your upbringing. Perhaps you were abandoned by them; forgive them and honour them. By so doing you will be able to enjoy the peace and blessings that God Has brought you into.
