Title: The Great Commission!
"Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen." Matthew 28:20 KJV.
Devotion: This verse can be analysed according to its three parts Viz the great commission, teaching and observing and the promise of his eternal presence.
1.The Great Commission: This verse is part of Jesus' final instructions to His disciples before His ascension. He commissions them to teach others to observe His commands. This is the singular most important commission given to man by Jesus and we must observe to carry it out. It is not a matter of choice.
2. Teaching and Observing: Jesus emphasizes the importance of teaching new believers to observe (or obey) all His commands. This implies a deep understanding and application of His teachings. To be a good teacher of the word we must be very knowledgeable in the word and we must observe what the word says 100%.
3. The Promise of Presence: Jesus reassures His disciples that He will be with them always, even until the end of the world. This promise extends to all believers, providing comfort and confidence in our faith journey. We should have no fear because Jesus is always with us.
The significance of this verse are as follows:
1. Discipleship: This verse highlights the importance of discipleship, where believers are taught to observe and apply Jesus' teachings in their lives. Any church that fails to disciple its members will lose them to others and it will become a sinners' chapel. There is need to reinvigorate discipleship in our churches.
2.Jesus' Sovereignty: The promise of Jesus' presence until the end of the world underscores His sovereignty and authority over all creation. It is the basis of our belief.
3. Permanence of Jesus' Teachings: The verse implies that Jesus' teachings are timeless and universal, applicable to all believers across cultures and centuries.
Let us apply the principles below to our lives and we will not remain the same again.
1.Obedience: As believers, we are called to observe and obey Jesus' commands, which are recorded in the Bible.
2.Discipleship: We should prioritize discipleship, teaching new believers to observe and apply Jesus' teachings in their lives.
3.Comfort in Jesus' Presence: We can find comfort and confidence in Jesus' promise to be with us always, even in challenging circumstances.
Day this prayer daily as reminder of the great commission and you'll find yourself doing the job of Christ.Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the Great Commission and the promise of Jesus' presence. Help us to obey His commands, prioritize discipleship, and find comfort in His presence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
The time to start is now this Christmas season, let the world around you know about Christ, invite them into your church and teach them the word of God. Hallelujah.
