Title: Benefits of Pleasing the Lord.

Scripture focus: “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” Proverbs 16:7 KJV

Devotion: This verse reminds us that the favour of God is not only spiritual but also practical—it influences our relationships, our circumstances, and even the hearts of those who oppose us.

To please the Lord is more than outward rituals; it is the posture of a heart fully surrendered to Him. It begins with accepting Christ as Lord and Savior, for true peace comes when we are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ. It continues with submission to His authority and sovereignty, trusting His wisdom above our own. Pleasing Him means living in total obedience, walking in His commandments even when it costs us, and being filled with the Holy Spirit so that our thoughts, words, and actions reflect His character. When our lives align with His will, we become living testimonies of His goodness, and that pleases Him.

But who are the enemies spoken of in Proverbs? They may be personal adversaries—those who oppose us out of jealousy, hatred, or misunderstanding. They may be spiritual forces, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers Ephesians 6:12. They may even be circumstantial opposition—systems, situations, or challenges that resist our progress. Yet the promise of God is that when our ways please Him, He can turn hostility into harmony. Jacob feared Esau’s wrath, but God softened Esau’s heart, and the brothers embraced in peace Gen 33:4. Enemies may remain enemies in nature, but God restrains their actions, changes their hearts, or compels them to act favorably toward us. Peace does not always mean friendship; it means God removes the threat of harm.

From this devotion, we learn that God Himself is the Peacemaker. True peace does not come from human effort but from divine intervention. Obedience attracts God’s favor, shifting atmospheres even in hostile environments. Peace becomes a divine shield, silencing opposition without us lifting a finger. Our focus, therefore, should not be on enemies but on pleasing God, for when we prioritize Him, He handles the rest.

Scripture gives us many examples of this truth. Daniel pleased God by remaining faithful, and even lions became harmless in the den Daniel 6. Joseph’s brothers sought his downfall, but God turned their evil into good, bringing reconciliation and salvation for many Gen 50:20. David spared Saul’s life, choosing obedience over revenge, and Saul himself acknowledged David’s righteousness 1 Samuel 24. KJV

The closing thought is clear: pleasing the Lord is the pathway to peace. When we walk in obedience, God not only blesses us but also disarms those who rise against us. Our role is to live faithfully; His role is to make even our enemies bow to His peace.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,  Thank You for the promise that when our ways please You, You bring peace even in the midst of opposition. Teach us to walk in obedience, to submit to Your authority, and to be filled with Your Spirit daily. Lord, soften the hearts of those who rise against us, and let Your peace guard our lives. May our focus remain on pleasing You above all else, knowing that You are our defender and our shield. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
