Devotional: The Blessing of Godly Siblings.
Scripture Reading:
"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" — Psalm 133:1
Growing up with siblings who love one another is one of life’s greatest blessings. In many families, quarrels and rivalry are common, but when Christ is at the center, love and peace reign. Growing up we never fought, we studied together, worked together, and even carried out household chores without complaint. That is a living testimony of the power of unity in Christ.
Even now, as adults with our own families, we remain closely knit. A missed day of communication is enough for my siblings to check in with love. This is what Jesus meant when He said, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35).
When our mother passed away, we faced that difficult moment not with strife but with cooperation. The burial was a success because we trusted God and leaned on one another. Truly, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour” (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
The secret of our unity is clear: Christ lives in each of us because our parents taught us to give our lives to Christ. Because of that we do not chase material things, envy has no place among us. Instead, love flows freely, extending even to our wives and husbands, who also walk in harmony. This is the fulfillment of Romans 12:10 — “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.”
Though we live hundreds of kilometers apart, technology has become a bridge for our fellowship. A simple call or WhatsApp message reminds us that family in Christ is never distant.
Reflection
- Unity among siblings is not automatic; it is cultivated through Christ.
- Love is stronger than material possessions.
- True family harmony is a witness to the world of God’s goodness.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the gift of siblings and the unity You bring through Christ. May our families be examples of love, peace, and cooperation. Help us to dwell together in harmony, showing the world the beauty of Christian fellowship. Amen.
Exhortation
Dear reader, if you have siblings, seek peace and unity with them. Let Christ be the bond that holds you together. “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).
