Title: The Call to Fellowship.

Scripture focus: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20).

Devotion: Beloved, fellowship is God’s gracious design for His children. Scripture reminds us, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20). As new believers, joining the fellowship of the saints is not optional—it is essential for spiritual growth. In fellowship we learn, encourage one another, and deepen our knowledge of God’s Word. The early church understood this well, for “they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42). From the very beginning, the church was strengthened through fellowship, and so it remains today.

Fellowship matters because it nurtures our faith in profound ways. It fosters spiritual growth, as we gain deeper understanding of the Word through shared insights and testimonies. As Hebrews 10:24–25 exhorts us, we are to spur one another on toward love and good deeds, never neglecting to meet together, but encouraging one another. Fellowship also gives us strength in unity, for life’s burdens are lighter when carried together. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us that two are better than one, and if one falls, the other can help him up. In fellowship, we find accountability and encouragement, sharpening one another as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). Most beautifully, fellowship allows us to experience God’s love in tangible ways, fulfilling Jesus’ words: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35).

I have witnessed this power of fellowship firsthand. During my time in Saudi Arabia, I joined a fellowship organized by Indian Christians. Many of them lacked deep knowledge of the Word, but together we studied, prayed, and grew. To God’s glory, those same believers now stand confidently before congregations, teaching the Word with boldness. This is the transforming power of fellowship—it equips believers to serve and strengthens the body of Christ.

Throughout history, fellowship has been the heartbeat of the church. The early believers prayed, ate, and studied together, and the church grew rapidly. Paul, in his letters, continually urged the churches to remain united in fellowship. Even today, Bible study groups, prayer meetings, and church gatherings continue to nurture faith and build strong communities of believers.

Beloved, do not walk this journey alone. Fellowship is where faith is nurtured, love is shared, and strength is renewed. Hold fast to the promise of Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
