Title: From Selfishness to Selflessness.
Philippians 2:3 AMPC
"Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves]."
Devotion: In a world that constantly encourages “looking out for number one,” the Apostle Paul's words in Philippians stand as a radical call to live differently. He reminds us that life isn't about self-promotion, power plays, or personal gain—but about humility and service.
Selfishness isolates. It divides. It creates strife and breeds conceit. But selflessness, as modeled by Jesus, invites unity, harmony, and love. When we value others above ourselves—not in a way that belittles our worth, but elevates theirs—we step into the true heart of Christ.
This verse isn't asking us to become invisible. It's inviting us to become intentional in love. To choose peace over competition. To show honor even when it costs us convenience. That shift from selfishness to selflessness is not just noble—it’s transformative.
A Simple Selfless Practice Today:
- Pause before making a decision and ask: “Will this serve only me, or benefit others too?”
- Celebrate someone else's success without comparing it to your own.
- Offer help quietly, expecting nothing in return.
Prayer:
Lord, strip away my pride and all the motives that seek self above You and others. Teach me to walk in humility—not weakness, but strength rooted in love. Help me consider others as precious and worthy, just as You see them. Make me a vessel of grace in a world hungry for kindness. Amen.
