Title: Lean on Jesus
Scripture Focus:
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
Devotional: In life’s stormiest seasons, we often find ourselves searching for something—or someone—to lean on. The truth is, God never intended for us to carry burdens alone. He designed us to lean on Him.
Consider Moses, weary from leading the Israelites through the wilderness. In Exodus 17, as the Israelites battled Amalek, Moses stood on a hill with the staff of God. But when his arms grew tired, he began to lower them, and the Israelites started to lose. So Aaron and Hur came alongside him, holding up his hands. Through this act of support, God gave them victory.
This picture echoes the divine invitation: “Lean on Me.” Whether it’s through His Spirit, His Word, or His people, God provides strength in our weakness.
Or take David, who poured out his heart in the Psalms. In Psalm 55:22, he writes: “Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.” David knew the power of leaning—not on kingship, armies, or his own wisdom—but on God’s unwavering presence.
And what about Jesus, the ultimate friend? In Matthew 11:28–30, He says: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest... For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” There’s no greater comfort than His invitation to rest in Him.
Reflection:
- Are you leaning on your own strength or on God's promises?
- Who might God have placed in your life to help lift your arms like Aaron and Hur?
- Have you accepted Christ’s invitation to rest?
Prayer:
Father, when I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are the rock I can lean on. Give me the grace to release control, to trust fully, and to walk in the rest You offer through Jesus. Surround me with people who reflect Your love and help me be a support to others too. Amen.
