Title: Shine Your Light!
Scripture focus: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." — Matthew 5:16 KJV
Devotion:
Jesus Christ is the light of the world (John 8:12) and when He comes into your life, He transforms you into light for the world. No wonder He says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid” (Matthew 5:14). It is the responsibility of the Christian to show forth all the good virtues that Christ has planted in him or her.
I read the story of a born-again Christian lumberjack many years ago. As we probably know, lumberjack men do all sorts of things that are not worthy to be heard from a Christian. This man lived with them for days in the bush, and these other men drank, took drugs, and used abusive words. The Christian returned home from one of the trips. When asked how he coped with the lumberjack lifestyle, he said, “They don’t even know that I am a Christian.” In other words, he hid his identity, pretending to be one of them. This man hid the Christ in him; he refused to be a light to the falling men.
Such are men of today: when we refuse to read our Bible in the workspace (Joshua 1:8), when we dress and talk like unbelievers (Romans 12:2), we stop being a light to the world. Instead of shining the light of Jesus, we hide it under the bushel (Luke 11:33).
We forget that the lifestyle of the believer in Christ Jesus is the Bible being read by the world (2 Corinthians 3:2-3), and as they see the good works, they will definitely give God the glory.
Do you believe that you are the light of the world? Shine the light to your neighbours and contacts (Philippians 2:15).
