Title: Loving in Return.
Scripture focus: We love him, because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19 KJV
Reflection: The Scriptures remind us that God loved us first: “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Out of this divine love, He calls us to respond by surrendering our lives to Christ, walking in obedience, and reflecting His love in our daily relationships.
Jesus Himself said: “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). Loving God is inseparable from loving our neighbours, for “the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’” (Galatians 5:14). Just as no one deliberately harms themselves, so too should we avoid hurting others, instead showing kindness, patience, and forgiveness.
Christ modeled this love perfectly. He healed the sick (Matthew 14:14), fed the hungry (Matthew 15:32), and taught the multitudes (Mark 6:34) because His heart overflowed with compassion. If we claim to belong to Him, then we must also live like Him: “Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did” (1 John 2:6).
Sadly, many professing Christians love Christ in words but fail to love their neighbours in deeds. Yet Scripture warns: “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar” (1 John 4:20). True love for Christ is revealed in how we treat others.
Therefore, let us pause and review our lives today. Let us return the love Christ has lavished upon us by living in obedience, departing from sin, and embracing holiness: “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do” (1 Peter 1:15). May God help us to love Him and our neighbours sincerely, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Short Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us first through Christ Jesus. Teach us to love You by obeying Your Word and to love our neighbours as ourselves. Help us to walk in holiness, compassion, and truth, reflecting the life of Christ in all we do. Strengthen us to depart from sin and live in obedience. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
This weekend show love to neighbours by helping the aged in your neighbourhood. Share love to your contacts by sharing this devotion with them.
