Devotion: Fatigued? Find Rest in God.
Scripture Reading:
"Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat.’ He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again." — 1 Kings 19:5–6 (NIV)
Reflection:
Fatigue is more than physical tiredness; it can weigh on the soul. Elijah, a mighty prophet, experienced this after his great victory on Mount Carmel. He fled into the wilderness, overwhelmed and exhausted. Yet God did not rebuke him for his weakness. Instead, He provided food, rest, and His Word.
- Good food: Just as Elijah was fed by the raven (1 Kings 17:6) and later by the angel, God reminds us that our bodies need nourishment. Eating well is part of honoring Him with our temple (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
- Rest: Sleep is not laziness; it is God’s design for renewal. “He gives His beloved sleep” (Psalm 127:2).
- Meditation on God’s Word: Elijah heard God’s gentle whisper (1 Kings 19:12). In our fatigue, His Word becomes the lamp to our feet (Psalm 119:105), guiding us with peace and clarity.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, when I am weary and burdened, remind me that You are my rest. Feed me with Your Word, strengthen me with Your Spirit, and renew me with Your peace. Just as You gave Elijah a plan, give me wisdom to walk in Your purpose. Amen.
Takeaway:
When fatigue sets in, don’t push harder in your own strength. Pause. Eat well. Rest deeply. Meditate on God’s promises. He will not only restore your energy but also give you a plan for the journey ahead.
