Title: In a Time Like This, Praise God!
Scripture focus: Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Habakkuk 3:17-18 KJV.
Devotion: Life today feels heavy — insecurity grips nations, financial struggles weigh families down, unbelief spreads like wildfire, love grows cold, divorce rises, and betrayal seems common. Yet, in a time like this, the call of Scripture is clear: PRAISE GOD!
Praise in the Midst of Trouble:
The psalmist declares: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” (Psalm 46:1–2). Even when the earth shakes and society crumbles, our response must be worship. Praise is not denial of reality; it is defiance against despair. It is choosing to magnify God above the chaos.
When Darkness Increases:
Jesus warned: “Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” (Matthew 24:12). We see this fulfilled daily. But He also promised: “He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13). Endurance is fueled by praise — lifting our eyes from the storm to the Savior.
Praise as a Weapon:
Paul and Silas, beaten and chained, sang hymns at midnight (Acts 16:25). Their praise shook the prison and broke their chains. Likewise, when insecurity and betrayal surround us, praise becomes our weapon. It shifts atmospheres, strengthens faith, and invites God’s intervention.
Praise Anchors the Soul:
Financial hardship may tempt us to despair, but Scripture reminds us: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1). Praise anchors us in His provision. When love is scarce, we remember: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases” (Lamentations 3:22). Praise keeps our hearts soft and hopeful.
A Call to Praise:
In times like this, praise is not optional — it is essential. Habakkuk declared: “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines… yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior” (Habakkuk 3:17–18), because the LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. Habakkuk 3:19. That is the posture of faith: rejoicing even when circumstances scream otherwise.
