Title: Backslider, Wake Up!
Scripture Reading:
- “The hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.” — Romans 13:11
- “Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.” — Revelation 3:2
- “Return, faithless Israel, declares the Lord. I will not look on you in anger, for I am merciful.” — Jeremiah 3:12
Spiritual Slumber:
Backsliding often begins quietly — a missed prayer here, a neglected scripture there. Like drifting into sleep, it feels harmless at first, but soon the soul grows dull and unresponsive. Paul warns us that the time is short, and we cannot afford to remain spiritually drowsy.
Wake-Up Call:
Revelation 3:2 is a divine alarm clock: “Wake up!” God calls His children to shake off complacency and rekindle their devotion. This is not condemnation but mercy — a chance to rise again, to strengthen what remains, and to walk in renewed obedience.
Return to God:
Jeremiah reminds us that God’s heart is merciful. Even when we’ve wandered, His invitation is clear: “Return.” The Father does not reject the repentant; He restores. Like the prodigal son, the backslider finds open arms waiting.
Reflection & Prayer:
- Where have I grown spiritually sleepy?
- What practices (prayer, worship, fellowship) do I need to revive?
- Am I willing to heed God’s wake-up call today?
Prayer:
“Lord, forgive me for drifting into slumber. Awaken my spirit, renew my passion, and draw me back into Your presence. Help me to walk faithfully, alert, and ready for Your coming. Amen.”
