Title: Chastening: A Mark of God's Love.

"My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth." Proverbs 3:11-12 (KJV)

Chastening is one of the clearest expressions of love. Just as a loving parent disciplines a child to help him grow into a responsible and successful adult, our Heavenly Father corrects His children to mould them into the image of Christ. God's discipline is never meant to harm us but to guide us in the path of righteousness and holiness.

I am grateful for the godly discipline and training my parents gave us while we were growing up. They taught us the ways of the Lord, corrected us when we went astray, and consistently pointed us to Christ. Today, I am happy to testify that all of us remain in the faith. Some have become elders in the church, while others serve as pastors. The values and character instilled in us through loving discipline have so shaped our lives that people often assume I am a pastor simply because of my speech and conduct. This is a testimony to the power of godly training and correction.

The Scriptures instruct parents to raise their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4 says, "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." Children may sometimes resist instruction or be tempted to depart from God's ways, but loving correction helps keep them on the right path.

Let us not neglect the training of our children. Some parents, especially those blessed with wealth, wrongly assume that because they suffered in life, their children should be spared every hardship and correction. By tolerating every misdeed, they raise children who lack discipline, respect, and accountability. Such unchecked behaviour can lead to destructive habits that ruin both lives and fortunes. May our children be nurtured with discipline, wisdom, and godly character, and may they never become addicts or miscreants.

I therefore urge parents, if you truly love your children, do not neglect their spiritual and moral training. Teach them God's Word diligently and correct them with wisdom, love, and consistency whenever they begin to wander. The Bible assures us:

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Discipline should begin early, when hearts are most teachable. Proverbs 13:24 reminds us, "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes." Biblical discipline is not about harshness or anger but about loving guidance that produces godly character.

God Himself disciplines His children for their good. As Hebrews 12:11 teaches, "Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."

May every parent be committed to moulding their children after the likeness of Christ. The investment of loving correction, faithful instruction, and godly example today can produce men and women who will serve God faithfully tomorrow.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your loving discipline and correction. Help us to receive Your chastening with humility and wisdom. Grant parents grace to train their children in Your ways, and may the next generation grow to love, serve, and honour You all the days of their lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.
