Title:What gives the enemy an advantage?
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls. Proverbs 25:28 KJV
Devotion: Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) that is often overlooked and less discussed. Mostly, love, patience, kindness, and faithfulness are the mainstream teachings in Christianity. But what is self-control? According to Proverbs 25:28, if you are a person with no self-control, you are like a broken city with no walls! What do walls signify in this scripture? Think about protection, privacy, boundaries, and wisdom! A person who lacks self-control is giving the enemy an advantage to attack and come in to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) a person’s life.
Beloved, aim to develop and master self-control with the Holy Spirit at all costs! It is for your own good and even for those you love! Rejoice whenever you are faced with difficult situations and people that seem to test your control over your emotions, have trouble keeping your mouth shut, or feel out of control with your unhealthy cravings and other ungodly stuff! It is a great opportunity to train yourself for the fruit of self-control! It will protect you when you sin by saying unnecessary words that may cause a dispute, broken trust, loss of friendship, and so much more!
There are a lot of benefits to mastering self-control in your life! And the enemy can't have an advantage over you when you have rule over yourself! Beloved, you are not a broken city without walls, for you are an overcomer in Christ! Hallelujah!
Prayer point: Abba Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit’s producing self-control in my life! I am grateful whenever difficult people and situations arise in my life, for that is an opportunity to practice and master self-control! You want me to be victorious in all aspects of my life, and I now know the reason I must undergo trials and testing of my heart and character! Thank You for being such a loving and guiding Father! I praise You to the highest in Jesus’ name! Amen!
