Topic: Greediness.

Scripture focus: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” (Luke 12:15).

Devotion: Greed is a subtle but destructive force that can consume the heart. It is the insatiable desire for more—more wealth, more power, more possessions—often at the expense of righteousness and contentment. The Bible warns us repeatedly about the dangers of greed.  
  Jesus said, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” (Luke 12:15). Greed blinds us to the true source of life, which is God Himself, and tempts us to believe that joy and security come from material things.  
  Paul reminds us that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). Notice it is not money itself, but the love of it—the obsession and craving—that leads people astray. Greed can cause us to compromise integrity, neglect compassion, and even turn away from faith.  
   Instead, Scripture calls us to contentment: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’” (Hebrews 13:5). True satisfaction is found not in accumulation, but in trusting God’s presence and provision.  
  Greed promises fulfillment but delivers emptiness. Generosity, gratitude, and faith in God’s sufficiency are the antidotes. As Proverbs 11:25 declares, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”   Make sure you refresh someone that needs it this morning.
